The botanical series draws on a long history of floral still life paintings and drawings. Much of Guerins works of art flirt with the great cliche's of art history, and floral still life's are just such cliches. However the history of art is linear as Guerin sees it, and he enjoys the challenge of taking a cliche and bringing it into the 21st Century for a new look through new approaches that build on other important artistic sensibilities such as minimalism, abstraction and cubism. The floral pieces continue his interest in mixing subject with content, and pushing the Tronpe-I'oeil, slight of hand illusions found in all of his current work.
